What is deep cleaning?
Deep cleaning refers to the process which goes above and beyond a daily clean and ensures that all areas of your establishment are maintained in a safe and hygienic manner.
While daily cleaning will involve vacuuming, mopping and the maintenance of a tidy appearance, a deep clean will tackle the more hidden, but no less important, areas of cleanliness.
A deep clean is generally undertaken at a quiet period on your establishment so that the cleaning team are able to do a really thorough job.

The key stages
- Furniture is moved so that the cleaning team can reach neglected areas.
- Carpets are shampooed and vacuumed.
- Areas missed in daily cleaning are targeted - shelves up high, keyboards, the tops of monitors, window sills etc.
- Buffing and polishing of wooden flooring.
- Bathrooms are deep cleaned and disinfected.
- Kitchens are deep cleaned, including fridges, microwaves and ovens.
How often should a deep clean be completed?
The amount of deep cleaning needed will depend on the establishment. For schools and offices, we recommended that deep cleaning should be completed 3-4 times a year, at quiet times. However, some commercial establishments with a high footfall may require more regular deep cleaning. At Birkin, we can create a specific deep-cleaning plan that works for you.
Which sectors require regular deep cleaning?
These are just some of the sectors we believe should consider regular deep cleaning. However, all establishments, big or small, will need to undertake deep cleaning at some stage!
Offices
Alongside daily office cleaning, it’s a good idea that you get your offices deep cleaned every so often. This will prevent the spread of germs and bacteria and keep your employees healthy. A nice spruce up of the office will also increase positive working attitudes since a clean environment can lead to a more focused mental state. There’s nothing better for a quick morale boost that an office deep clean!
Schools
School environments go through a lot on a daily basis, so it’s important to give them some love and care every so often. Again, a semi-regular deep clean will help to prevent the spread of illnesses and allow students to feel more focused.
It can also allow you to get rid of chewing gum and graffiti. For more information on our specialist graffiti removal services, click here.
Hospitality
Hotels and leisure centres may require more regular deep cleaning to keep up high standards and guarantee customer satisfaction.
Deep cleaning is especially important for catering facilities, where food preparation must strictly adhere to health and safety regulations.
